LWSB began in 1939 as a program to train and employ blind persons to operate vending stands. In 1946 the Lions Clubs of Arkansas provided funds to allow the facility to expand services as a comprehensive rehabilitation center. In 1947, the first blind trainee was admitted for training. Since that time, more than 8,000 persons form 50 States and 56 other nations have been served. LWSB has become a rehabilitation center unique in the world and international in scope. It is the largest, most complete center of its kind. Its programs have been copied through out the world.
